Description
A savory and quick one-pan stir-fry that brings the bold, sweet, and salty flavors of Mongolian-style cooking to your weeknight dinner table. This dish pairs lean ground beef with crisp, shredded cabbage in a vibrant ginger-hoisin glaze. Perfectly balanced and nutritious, it is a high-protein, time-saving meal that is far superior to standard takeout, providing a healthy alternative without sacrificing any flavor or texture.
Ingredients
1 pound lean ground beef
1 tablespoon sesame oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 small green cabbage, thinly sliced (5-6 cups)
4 green onions, sliced
1 teaspoon sesame seeds (garnish)
1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup beef broth
1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
2 tablespoons water (for slurry)
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, beef broth, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and crushed red pepper flakes until the sugar dissolves.
In a separate small container, combine the cornstarch and water to create a slurry.
Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned and crumbled.
Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for about 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-5 minutes until the cabbage is tender but still retains a slight crunch.
Pour the prepared sauce mixture into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and cabbage evenly.
Remove from heat, garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, and serve immediately.
Notes
Ensure you slice the cabbage thinly for the best texture. If you prefer more spice, increase the crushed red pepper flakes to 1/2 teaspoon. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
