Description

A classic dessert with a luscious blueberry filling topped with soft, fluffy dumplings. Perfect for family gatherings or cozy nights in, this comforting dish can be served warm or cold.

Ingredients

4 cups blueberries
1/2 cup water
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons cold butter
1/2 cup milk

Instructions

In a saucepan, combine blueberries, water, sugar, lemon juice, and optional spices. Bring to a gentle boil and simmer until the berries break down into a juicy sauce.
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add milk to form a soft biscuit-like dough.
Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the hot blueberry mixture, spacing evenly.
Cover the saucepan tightly and simmer gently for 15–20 minutes without lifting the lid, allowing the dumplings to steam and rise.
Spoon into bowls and serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

Adjust sugar to taste based on the sweetness of the blueberries.
Optional spices like cinnamon and nutmeg enhance warmth but can be omitted.
Can be served cold; reheat gently if desired.
Ensure the lid fits tightly on the saucepan during cooking for proper steam generation.
