Description

Sweet and tangy cinnamon rolls filled with juicy blackberries and topped with a creamy, tangy cream cheese frosting. A morning or dessert favorite with a nostalgic, cozy aroma.

Ingredients

1 cup whole milk, warm
2½ tsp yeast (active dry or instant)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
4¼ cups all-purpose flour
2 large eggs
1 tsp salt
6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
300 g (2 cups) blackberries (fresh or frozen)
1/4 cup sugar (for filling)
1½ tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp lemon juice
Pinch of salt (for filling)
4 oz cream cheese, softened
2 tbsp butter (softened, for frosting)
1½ cups powdered sugar
3 tbsp blackberry filling (reserved)
1/2 tsp vanilla
Pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions

In a large bowl, warm milk until 105°F (40°C). Dissolve yeast and 1/4 cup sugar in milk; let foam form.
Add eggs, salt, and 1/2 cup sugar to a stand mixer. Mix in warm milk mixture and 2 tbsp butter.
Gradually mix in 4¼ cups flour. Knead until smooth, adding more flour if too sticky (8–10 minutes).
Cover and let dough rise in a warm place for 30–45 minutes until doubled.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
In a saucepan, mix blackberries, 1/4 cup sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Cook until thickened; strain and reserve 3 tbsp for frosting.
Roll dough into a rectangle (16×20 inches). Spread with remaining blackberry filling and remaining 4 tbsp softened butter.
Roll tightly into a log; cut into 12 equal slices. Place in baking dish and bake for 16–18 minutes until golden.
Meanwhile, whisk cream cheese, 2 tbsp butter, powdered sugar, reserved blackberry filling, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Frost warm rolls immediately.

Notes

For a vegan version, use plant-based butter, flax eggs, and dairy-free milk.
Fresh blackberries work best for vibrant flavor; frozen berries may require reduced sugar due to natural sweetness.
Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Frosting can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for 2 days.
Substitute all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor.
