Description

Velvety melted Brie, sweet apple butter, salty diced ham, and crisp green apple come together between two slices of golden buttery sourdough in just 10 minutes. This sweet and savory grilled cheese hits every note — rich, fresh, crunchy, and completely satisfying.

Ingredients

2 slices sourdough bread

2 ounces Brie cheese

2 tablespoons apple butter

2 tablespoons diced ham

2 tablespoons diced green apple

1 tablespoon butter, divided

Instructions

1. Spread 1 tablespoon of apple butter evenly over each slice of sourdough bread.

2. Lay the Brie slices on one piece of bread over the apple butter.

3. Scatter the diced ham and diced green apple over the Brie in an even layer.

4. Place the second slice of bread on top, apple butter side down. Press gently to hold it together.

5. Heat ½ tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat until it melts completely.

6. Set the sandwich in the pan. Cook for 2–3 minutes until the bottom turns deep golden brown.

7. Lift the sandwich out of the pan, add the remaining ½ tablespoon of butter, flip the sandwich, and cook the other side for 2–3 minutes until golden.

8. Slice and serve immediately alongside soup or salad.

Notes

Assemble the sandwich no more than 30 minutes before cooking — apple butter softens the bread quickly.

Set the Brie out at room temperature for 15 minutes before using so it melts evenly throughout.

Keep heat at medium, not high — a slow, steady toast gives you crispy bread and fully melted cheese without burning.

A sandwich press works just as well. Butter the outside of the bread before pressing.

Dice the apple and ham up to 2 days ahead and store in separate containers in the fridge for fast assembly.
