Description

Fresh mint meets tangy lime in this refreshing twist on the classic margarita. Made with simple ingredients and ready in 5 minutes, this cocktail brings vacation vibes to your backyard.

Ingredients

3 ounces tequila (silver or blanco)

2 ounces fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)

2 ounces simple syrup

1 ounce water

5 to 6 fresh mint leaves, plus extra for garnish

Crushed ice

Coarse salt for rimming (optional)

Lime wedges for garnish

Instructions

1. Run lime wedge around rim of glass and dip in coarse salt if desired. Fill glass with crushed ice and place in freezer.

2. Roll limes on counter with palm of hand. Cut in half and juice until you have 2 ounces. Strain out seeds but keep pulp.

3. Add tequila, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, water, and mint leaves to cocktail shaker. Gently press mint leaves a few times with muddler if you have one.

4. Add handful of ice to shaker. Secure lid and shake vigorously for 15 to 20 seconds until shaker feels cold.

5. Strain margarita over crushed ice in prepared glass. The strainer catches mint leaves and ice chips.

6. Garnish with fresh mint leaves and lime wedge. Give mint a gentle slap between hands before adding to release oils. Serve immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh lime juice, never bottled.

Don’t over-muddle mint or it becomes bitter.

Keep tequila in freezer so drink stays colder longer.

Make simple syrup ahead and store in fridge for up to 1 month.

For pitcher, multiply ingredients by servings needed and mix everything except ice and water.

Try strawberry mint version by adding 3-4 fresh strawberries to shaker.
