Description

Create show-stopping chocolate treats shaped like dinosaur eggs with speckled candy shells. These no-bake Oreo truffles hide inside realistic-looking eggs perfect for parties and gifts.

Ingredients

1 package (14.3 oz) Oreo cookies (regular, not double-stuffed)

8 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature

16 oz white candy melts or white chocolate

1/4 teaspoon vegetable oil for thinning

1/4 cup each: green, brown, and red candy melts for speckles

Hard-bristle toothbrush for spattering

Instructions

1. Process entire package of Oreos in food processor until fine crumbs form, add softened cream cheese, and pulse until mixture forms a ball.

2. Scoop 1-2 tablespoons of mixture, roll between palms into oval egg shape, flatten sides slightly, and refrigerate on parchment-lined baking sheet for 30 minutes.

3. Melt white candy melts in microwave in 30-second bursts stirring between intervals, add touch of oil to thin, and let cool slightly.

4. Dip each chilled egg into white chocolate using fork, turn to coat completely, tap fork on bowl edge to remove excess, and place on parchment to set for 5 minutes.

5. Melt colored candy melts separately with tiny bit of oil, dip toothbrush bristles into chocolate, and flick them about 1 inch from eggs to create speckles.

Notes

Work with cold eggs when dipping or they will fall apart in warm chocolate.

Chill hands in ice water between shaping to prevent mixture from melting.

Practice spattering technique on parchment paper first before decorating eggs.

Store finished eggs in airtight container in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks layered with parchment.

Freeze shaped eggs before coating for up to 1 month or finished eggs for up to 3 months.

Add few drops vanilla extract to cream cheese mixture for extra flavor depth.
